Founded in 2003 in Scotland, the Samantha Holmes label is one the longest established lifestyle alpaca clothing brands in the UK. Alpaca fleece is like wool from the Alpaca from South America. Like wool it is sheared annually but it is warmer, not prickly, and has no lanolin, which makes it hypoallergenic. Alpaca fibre is naturally water-repellent and fire resistant too.

Alpacas have been bred in Pre-Columbian, South America for over 5,000 thousands of years. Two-thousand-year-old Paracas textiles are thought to include alpaca fibre. Also known as “The Fibre of the Gods”, Alpaca was used to make clothing for royalty.
